Sixteen-year-old Macy Queen is looking forward to a long, boring summer. Her boyfriend is going away. She's stuck with a dull-as-dishwater job at the library. And she'll spend all of her free time studying for the SATs or grieving silently with her mother over her father's recent unexpected death. But everything changes when Macy is corralled into helping out at one of her mother's open house events, and she meets the chaotic Wish Catering crew. Before long, Macy joins the Wish team. She loves everything about, the work and the people. But the best thing about Wish is Wes—artistic, insightful, and understanding Wes—who gets Macy to look at life in a whole new way, and really start living it. - Summary from Goodreads

I absolutely loved this book. It was good enough to put on my wish list on amazon. Seriously. This book goes deeper than what I usually read, sure it is a sweet, quickish read, but for someone who lost her father as well, it touches home. Though I didn't find myself in Macey's shoes it is a real plot. A real story of a teenager that starts her summer as a girl who is secretly miserable (even though she doesn't realize it) and comes out in the end as Macey, the real Macey. The characters in this book are perfect... From Wes (he's amazing) to Delia to Kristy to her mom! And of course can't forget Bert! Haha when you read it you'll see what I mean, each character is so uniquely different and yet go together just right! I would join the Wish team in a heartbeat! This book also had laughs, the Wish is quite funny! All I can say it this book was amazing and very well written. Sarah Dessen did an amazing job! I gave this book 5 stars! It is a keeper... I highly recommend this book.

Excerpt:

“What else, what else,” she said as she reached the island, sliding the tray there. “What else did we
need?” She pressed a hand to her forehead, closing her eyes.
“Ice,” I said, and she turned around and looked at me.
“Ice,” she repeated. Then she smiled. “Thanks. Who are you?”
“Macy. This is my mom’s house.”
Her expression changed, but only slightly. I had a feeling she knew what was coming.
I took a breath. “She wanted me to come and check that everything’s all right. And to convey that
she’s—”
“Incredibly pissed,” she finished for me, nodding.
“Well, not
Just then, there was a splashing crash from the next room, followed by another short silence. Delia
glanced over at the door, just as the toddler started wailing again.
“Now?” she said to me.
“Well . . . yes,” I said. Actually, I was betting this was an understatement. “Now, she’s probably
pissed.”
“Oh, dear.” She put a hand on her face, shaking her head. “This is a disaster.”
I wasn’t sure what to say. I felt nervous enough just watching all this: I couldn’t imagine being
responsible for it.
“Well,” she said, after a second, “in a way, it’s good. We know where we stand. Now things can only
get better. Right?”
I didn’t say anything, which probably didn’t inspire much confidence. Just then, the oven timer went off with a cheerful bing! noise. "Okay," she said suddenly, as if this had signaled a call to action. "Macey. Can you answer a question?"
“Sure,” I said.
“How are you with a spatula?”
This hadn’t been what I was expecting. “Pretty good,” I said finally.
“Wonderful,” she said. “Come here.”

  4. I read this over the summer and loved it! I actually got it from the bargain section at B&N for $1.99 (in the spring they had a blowout sale).

I would have loved to work for Wish Catering. Working side by side with artistic cutie Wes? Yes please! :)
